Aims and Scope
The Journal of Contemporary Maqasid Studies provides an international scholarly platform for original and rigorous research on maqasid in relation to contemporary intellectual, legal, social, ethical, and civilizational questions. The journal is dedicated to advancing the study of maqasid as both a theoretical and applied field of inquiry, with particular attention to its relevance for understanding revelation, renewing Islamic thought, and addressing current human and societal challenges.
The journal aims to:
- Advance innovative and critical scholarship on maqasid in contemporary contexts;
- Revitalize the maqasid tradition within current academic, intellectual, and policy discourse;
- Develop revelation-grounded methodologies for the study of contemporary realities; and
- Foster constructive engagement between maqasid scholarship and other disciplines, philosophies, and methodological traditions.
The journal welcomes original research articles, critical reviews, and scholarly discussions in, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Foundations and methodological studies in Islamic thought, including Usul al-Fiqh, Usul al-‘Aqidah, Usul al-Hadith, and related fields;
- Studies on the maqasid of the Qur’an and the Sunnah;
- Theoretical and applied developments in maqasid methodology;
- Maqasid-based approaches to contemporary jurisprudential issues and emerging legal questions;
- Critical and historical studies on the development of maqasid as a field of knowledge;
- Maqasid-oriented engagement with contemporary theories, philosophies, and methods;
- Transdisciplinary studies of contemporary phenomena, including social justice, governance, environmental challenges, conflict, reform, halal industries, technological transformation, and cultural change;
- Critical studies that examine modern disciplines in the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences from a maqasid perspective; and
- Institutional, strategic, and policy-oriented studies on the application of maqasid at organizational, societal, ummatic, and global levels.
The journal particularly welcomes contributions that demonstrate clear conceptual rigor, methodological strength, and substantive relevance to contemporary issues, while showing how maqasid perspectives can enrich scholarly understanding and practical responses across disciplines.
